Chocolate Cup Cakes (Sour Cream)

½ cup boiling water
¼ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
¼ cup cocoa
1½ cup flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp soda
1 egg, well beaten
½ cup sour cream
½ tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In mixing bowl, add hot water to shortening, sugar, and cocoa.  Beat until sugar dissolves.  In separate bowl combine flour, salt, baking powder, and soda.  In another bowl, combine egg with cream and vanilla. Add egg mixture alternately with sifted dry ingredients to first mixture.  Fill greased cupcake pans half full.  Makes 18 cups.  Bake for 20-25 minutes.  Frost if desired.
